Details

Anjing Bali (in English: Bali’s Dog), is not a dog without origin, but is suspected as a proto-canine, a pure dog, which evolved from an animal-like-wolf (which is also likened to Dingo Australia-even though the age of this Anjing Bali is older than Dingo) to be able to coexist with human. They no longer hunt, but eat from the remnants of hunting and human food. The relationship between dogs and Balinese is not only about practical use, but also about trust. In Balinese mythology, it is told about the figure of Yudhistira who died at one time with his brother, wife and dog. They all traveled to heaven, but only Yudhistira and his dog arrived at the gates of heaven. Although he was allowed to enter heaven, Yudhistira refused to go to heaven if his faithful dog did not enter. Lord Indra refused the request on the grounds that the animal was not fit to enter heaven. Yudhistira persisted in his stance, until finally it was revealed that the dog was in fact an incarnation of Sang Hyang Dharma. Some interpret that the dog in the story is a symbol of karma inseparable from the spirit.
